Quilted Afghan Tree Skirt

Regular price $448.00

Designed with Joy. Handmade with Love. Preserving Artisanal Traditions.

Description

Made in close partnership with an artisanal Afghan textile and fashion house based in Kabul called Zarif Design our Quilted Afghan Tree Skirt is a handcrafted in Afghanistan, featuring a handwoven wool base, a deep blue quilted border, and three decorative brass buttons. It is made by courageous women seamstresses working from the Zarif studio and from their homes.

Zarif has been employing and training women and girls for the past 17 years in Afghanistan, providing their community of artisans and seamstresses continued, stable work and employment. We partnered with Zolaykha Sherzad, the founder of Zarif, to design a Holiday collection.

A Little Piece of Tradition, Stitched with Love

Our tree-skirt's natural-colored fabric is handwoven in Afghanistan using locally hand-spun wool yarn, then adorned with delicate geometric stitching inspired by traditional European textile patterns. A rich navy blue border around the skirt features intricate Bouti embroidery, a dimensional quilting technique inspired by the shared textile traditions of Afghanistan and Provence, France. Three handcrafted brass buttons, hand-cast by a two-generation workshop that Zarif has been partnering with for over a decade add an elegant finishing touch.

Every detail tells a story of skill, heritage, and creativity.

Lovingly handcrafted by skilled Afghan artisans, including women working from their homes and young women trained through Zarif's educational program, each piece in our Zarif x Craftspring collection helps preserve traditional embroidery techniques while supporting meaningful opportunities for women in Afghanistan.

Zarif Design is a social enterprise based in Kabul, Afghanistan that empowers artisans with dignity and economic sustainability by reviving the ancient traditions and skills of weaving, embroidery, and tailoring.  At its core Zarif acts as an ambassador sharing the rich cultural heritage of Afghanistan and its people with the rest of the world. Building Peace through Creativity.
